Okay, y’all, remember this name, Coco Lee.
You may not have heard of her yet, but you will.
She’s sold millions of records all over the world,
and she’s being heralded as the Mariah Carey of Asia.
And she’s about to do what no other American, uh, sorry, not American,
Asian American artist has been able to do so far,
become an American pop superstar.
And never forget we’re bringing you her first, okay?
Please welcome Coco Lee, everyone.
Hello! Hi, Lisa!
Coco, congratulations on your CD.
Thank you.
Now, I know that this is your American debut,
but you kind of consider this a homecoming. Why is that?
Um, because I grew up here, you know.
I came to, uh, the States when I was like a little baby, and I came to, you know,
I went to elementary school here, middle school, high school, had my proms here,
and so this is where my life began.
Okay, ’cause I, I got a little flustered there,
’cause I know you weren’t born in America.
I said Asian American.
Right, right, right.
Now I’m making an excuse for myself for messing up reading the prompter.
But, um, you’re huge in Asia,
but it’s more difficult in the United States.
What kind of challenges are for you?
It’s a huge challenge.
Basically, I’m starting all over again.
I’m a new artist, you know, people don’t know who Coco Lee is,
and, uh, you know, I have to give more efforts,
and because there’s a lot more work required as a new artist.
And the funniest thing is, like, uh, you know,
in the States I have to get up like four o’clock in the morning for a photo shoot,
but in Asia, you know, it’s whenever I feel like it,
or like I can get my beauty sleep,
and like five o’clock in the afternoon,
okay, I feel like doing an interview now, you know,
so it’s totally different there.
So it’s literally more rigorous in the United States.
Right, right.
Well, I also understand that you got your start kind of
on the Asian equivalent of Star Search, is that true?
Yeah, it is. Um, it’s a huge singing contest in Hong Kong,
and, uh, you know, like thousands of people enter each year
hoping to be a singer, and for me, being a singer was unintentional.
So I didn’t know I had the talent, but I love singing.
And I grew up listening to Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey,
and I sang, uh, “Whitney Houston’s Run to You” and “I Want Second Place”
and that’s how I got to where I am today.
You know what’s adorable about this girl?
Her mother goes everywhere with her.
And her sister is, your sister is your makeup artist.
She quit her job and studied makeup to be with you all the time.
I think that’s adorable.
Are you gonna sing for us now, right?
Definitely.
Performing “Do You Want My Love”
Oh great, your song is gonna be in my head all day.
CoCo Lee thank you so much. You’re adorable.
And you can purchase Coco’s CD, “Just No Other Way,” on our website.
And when we come back, I join the Old Navy team and you’re getting the first look.
We’ll be right back.
Thank you.

Lisa
Coco
I Want Second Place
Coco Lee
